What is the purpose behind making a secure entry?

Can I support a patent application by using this site?

I intend to use my entry on this site to help my patent application. Naturally, this site cannot grant a patent. But I can use my time stamp to help establish the time of my having created my invention, among my patent office required proofs. It was a relief to know that I had saved a few of my developmental schematics during my design process when I lost my notebook in the lab. At least my competitors will have a hard time saying that it was theirs. I think I spent $4.95 to help protect six months work! I also was able to get a feel for the originality of my invention by viewing those already posted.

Why should I register?

In order to fully utilize the abilities of this myidea.net, the administrator will require that you register as a member. Registration is free, and allows you to do the following:

• Create and document an idea
• Comment on and rate other ideas
• Receive email notifications with your unique MyIdea serial number and secure timestamp for your idea

To register, you will need to specify a username and password, and a valid email address. Entering your email address will not leave you open to 'spam', as you can choose to hide your email address, and messages sent to you via email do not reveal your address to the sender in any case. (To verify this, you can try sending an email message to another user.) The administrator configured myidea.net to send you the final part of the registration process by email, so ensure that the email address you provide is valid and working.

If you are under the age of 13, the administrator may require that a parent or guardian provides consent before allowing you to complete the registration process. More information about this is available during the registration process.

What is a certified timestamp?

Myidea.net creates and validates notarized/certified timestamps for content posted on the site. This is a certified timestamp, from a trusted third party acting as a timestamping authority (TSA). It is used to prove the existence of certain data, before a certain point, without the possibility that the owner can backdate the timestamps.

How can I change the information in my profile?

It is your responsibility to keep the information in your profile up-to-date. You should especially ensure that your email address is kept current. You can alter any of the fields in your profile, except your username. Once you have registered your username, it becomes yours for life. In extreme circumstances, you may request that the administrator change your username, but he or she will require a very good reason to do so.

I lost my password, what can I do?

If you forget your password, you can click on the 'Request new password' link on the homepaage- http://www.myidea.net.

This will bring up a page where you should enter your registered email address or username. An email will be sent to that address instantly, with instructions and a link for resetting your password.

How do I get a picture in my profile?

These small images are called Avatars. They are displayed below your username on all posts that you make. The avatar would be those that you upload yourself. The administrator has enabled custom avatars, which allows you to upload an avatar image from your computer.

What are attachments?

The administrator allows you to use the attachment feature of MyIdea.net, which gives you the ability to attach files of certain types to your posts. This could be an image, a text document, excel spreadsheet , etc. There will be a 10 megabyte limit to the file size of any attachments you make.

To attach a file to a new post, simply click the [File Attachment] link located toward the bottom of the post composition page, and locate the file that you want to attach from your local hard drive.

Only certain types of files may be attached: these are the valid file extensions for files to be attached to this forum: jpg jpeg gif png txt html doc xls pdf ppt pps odt ods odp mov avi mpeg mpg rm flv wmv 3gp mp4 dir dcr

After posting, the image attachments may display a thumbnail, depending on the site settings. To view the contents of the attachment (if it is not already displayed) simply click the filename link that appears next to the attachment icon.

How do I rate an idea?

You will find a row of 5 grey stars under all ideas posted which allows you to rate an idea between 1-5 stars. Casting a vote for ideas you view is entirely optional, but if you think that the thread is superb, you might rate it as a 5-star thread, or if you think that it's unspeakably dismal, you might choose to rate the thread with a single star.

Once your vote has been cast for the idea, you will see a set of red stars appear with the title of the idea in the listings.
Once enough votes have been cast for the thread rating, these stars reflect the average vote cast, and can allow you to quickly see which ideas are worth investigating
